Survey Monkey Results(Primary Research- 6)

I have created a questionnaire using Survey Monkey to collect my results. This is to see what people prefer in comics for my Final Major Project. This is helpful as it shows different people's opinions towards comics and graphics. This would also show who I am aiming my work at/ the target audience.  https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/22YQQF9 ( Survey Monkey Questionnaire) to help me with my character design/development on each of my characters.  Here are my results

From my Survey monkey results it shows that most of the people who did my survey prefer adventure comics. 75.00% of people  from my survey chose 4-6 boxes showing that I should sue this for my comic. This shows that for my comic I should make an adventure one due to the results that I have got. I have also found out form my results that my comic should  be aimed at teenagers. Also from my results I have found out that the type of preferred text for a comic is block and manga style text. The Demographic of my piece/ survey monkey is for children. This is because I feel as though children would prefer comics then teenagers and adults.

Quick Sketches(26th April) 5 research

Today I have drawn 3 parts of the face for my main character. These are just some ideas to see what I like and what I don't like from my drawings. I have used a youtube video to show me how to draw a simple plait onto a head. This was helpful because it showed how much detail you need to put in the drawing to create a fantastic realistic face drawing.

Also this was helpful because it gave detail on how to draw a simple plait on paper. Also I wanted to look at this video as I wanted my main character to have a plait or two. Also I used a youtube video for a plait style on paper  as this was less complicated then trying to find a photo to copy the plait from. I thought that this was easier to follow with drawing a plait.

Secondary Research (Further Research 4)

Hart, C (2001). Drawing Cutting Edge Comics. New York: Watson-Guptill. 7-144.
This book was very useful because it shows different styles on how to draw a comic character. It uses a lot of detail to show(in each step) how the character has been built up. Also this book was very helpful because it showed how the developed character fits onto the comic strip/storyboard. This shows how useful this book is. Also it shows how a character is built up from a pencil drawing to a comic hero character which I like.

   Mccloud, S (2006). Making Comics. USA: Harper-Collins. 1-253.
This book was useful because it shows step by step how to create the perfect comic. It also highlights the different stages between the comics- scenes. I like the way that each instruction has been drawn by the little man. I like the black outline on each part of the comic from the book. This is because it gives the bold effect which works with my idea. I like the fact that it shows how to draw a storyboard with complicated characters. It doesn't make each of the steps complicated, it makes it easier to follow which I like the look of.

This comic book didn't help with my research because it was too long. It didn't show how to draw/ develop characters for a good comic. Also it didn't help because I found that the comic was too long. It didn't show a good technique for a short but effective comic book.
This cartoon book didn't help because it didn't show any of the right character development. I found that the book contains a more of a hero style rather then a cartoon comic style. Also the main focus of the book was to do with heroes which I don't need.  It didn't help me with designing a character for a comic- just a general hero style.

I have found this book useful because it shows/showed how different characters have been onto a comic to show the realism and the scene. I like the way that detail has been used throughout this book to show different styles of comics because it gives the feeling that something mysterious is happening. It shows and describes what each of the scenes in each comic is trying to represent, how you make it realistic which I have found interesting and very useful.

Graphic Novel research Secondary(3)

I like this image because it shows the main character at the front of the scene. I also like the fact that the main character is the main focus of the whole scene. This adds to the effect of the whole comic. I like the way that the background has been added in around the main character. This makes the character feel as though they are in background. The background characters makes the main character stands out because it feels realistic.  I like the detail added to each part of the scene as it gives the realistic effect and texture. The colour black and white adds to the effect of it being part of a book/comic book. I like the way that the main character is looking at the audience as it shows what it is feeling.

I like this image because it gives the impression that the characters are on a journey or a holiday. The layout of this image makes me feel that not all comics need to be that long. Each of these scenes use detail to highlight each of the scenes. This comic uses shadows which adds to the effect of something dropping on the floor, or to highlight the different types of lighting in each of the scene. This makes the comic bold and stands out from the rest of the scenes. The black outline of the characters gives the impression that their personality has been secret. For the comic. I also like the fact that in my opinion it feels as though something mysterious of the character has happened, but they just want to keep it a secret.

What is a Graphic Novel?
A Graphic Novel is a book made up of various comics. It uses a lot of detail to add to the effect of the characters in a comic book style. It makes you feel as though the character(s) are moving in each of the scenes as if they are alive. 'Graphic Novel' is mainly used as a broad comic. This concludes using fiction and non- fiction. They are a sequential piece of art, this adds to the boldness of each of the comics with each of the scenes. http://www.getgraphic.org/whatisagraphicnovel.php

I like this image because it shows a lot of detail in the characters. Also the characters in this graphic novel look realistic which shows how much time it has taken to create this graphic novel. I like the fact that this page doesn't use that many boxes or words. This is because it shows that the drawings tell the story on their own instead of using words all the time. I like the shadows of the characters as it shows their facial expressions/body posture throughout the scenes. It gives the realism that most  graphic novels use black and white instead of colour.

http://img10.deviantart.net/03e9/i/2009/133/9/d/quique_hache_graphic_novel_4_5_by_gmartinez.jpg I like this image because it shows the emotions through the characters. I like the way that the characters have been drawn as they show what the character is thinking. I also like the fact that there isn't very many scenes which tells the story. It looks as though the characters are moving like an animation in this comic which is another reason why I like it. I like the perspective in one of the scenes which shows the realism of the whole scene. It makes you feel as though you are in the comic/scene with the way that the artist has drawn the scene.

Comic research(Secondary Research 2)

I like this comic page because it gives a great layout for a comic. I like the fact that there is a title at the beginning showing people what the comic is called. I also like the fact that there is a lot of dialogue/speech bubbles showing that it is a comic strip. I like the layout of the comic strip because it doesn't show boring text, it just uses interesting text instead. I like the fact that it is in black and white making the whole comic stand out.

I like this comic because it shows an interest to the main character. It shows a great layout with some of the characters and their personalities between each other. I like the layout because it is clear between each of the scenes. I also like this comic strip because it shows the detail between each of the scenes/characters. The title of the comic strip is lovely and bold showing that it is a comic straight away.

I like this comic because it shows the main character throughout the scenes. I like the fact that all of the scenes of these comic are slightly different. This shows that all comic books and strips are all different for each of the scenes. This gives the impression that some comic scenes are larger then others. It also shows that some comics have more action compared to others. This could also show that the scenes that are bigger have the main character in compared to a smaller scene.

I like this comic because it shows how a comic is made. It shows the main story between the characters and the scenes. I like the fact that it is a really simple version of a comic. It doesn't give an interesting background it just shows the character which I like. The facial expressions on the main character gives the impression on what it is feeling and why it is feeling that way. This is because of the way that the character has been drawn and the angle of the character(facial expression).

I like this comic because it shows the main story behind the characters. I like the fact that it is coloured which shows that it is a good comic. I also like the fact that in every single scene there is some sort of dialogue which I like. I like the fact that there is quite a few scenes which adds to the comic. This comic page doesn't have a title because I assume that it carries on from another one. The action behind each of the comic scenes shows the interest and the action.

Research(Secondary Research 1)

I like this image because it shows the different styles of designing a character. Also I like this character because it shows the different positions of the different characters. It gives the impression that some of the characters are turning in front of your eyes because of the way that they have been drawn. I like the way that the person has drawn the different facial expressions. This is because they show exactly what the characters are feeling.

I like this image because it shows the different position of the characters. This gives the feeling of what the character is feeling and the emotions that they have during their position. I like this image because of the different clothes that each of these characters are wearing. This is because it gives the character the personality that they are supposed to be feeling. Also I like the fact that all of the different characters have different clothes representing what they like and what they don't like.

I like this image because it shows different types of faces. This gives the impression that each of these faces are thinking of different things compared to each other. Also I like the different shapes of each of the characters. This gives the impression that all of these faces belong to different sorts of characters. The mouths on each of the characters gives the feeling of the expressions given to each type of character. It gives the suspense to some of them as it leaves you feeling what they are thinking through the expressions.

I like this image because of the clothes. The clothes gives the impression that they are where their clothing shows which I like. Also I like the fact that the clothes give the detail to the character. I feel that it is important to have the character in clothes that fit their personality. This is because without it the characters wouldn't be who they are. Also it shows what they like from their clothes compared to having clothes that they don't like, and that don't fit their personality.

I like this image because it shows the different sorts of clothing's for each different character. Also I like this image because it shows some accessories that characters like such as shoes, hats, necklaces showing their love for fashion. This image shows that some-one has drawn them to give the impression of the different sorts of clothes that characters like. I like the fact that there is a choice between boys and girls, aswell as tomboys which I like the feeling of.

Proposal

The theme that I have chosen to do for my project is character design.  I have chosen to do a character design theme because I would like to show my graphic/drawing skills. Also I like designing characters so I feel that designing a character for my project would turn out well.

The mediums that I will be using to create my artwork is paper , pen and pencil. I might even use Adobe Illustrator to bring my character to live, this would make it feel more like a graphic piece. I would design my character on paper first to get the idea of what I would like my character to look like. Then I would probably use Adobe Illustrator to grab the attention of my character. Also this would make my character stand out more.

I would like my work to look like a graphic piece. I would do this by creating a kind of comic style page to show my idea. This would show my character in lots of different ways. It would also make it look better then just have it on a page without any background or some sort of story.  I would like to do this to show my interest in cartoons and storyboards.

The initial research that I will undertake while completing this project is to research different types of character designs and how they create their cartoon characters. The other initial research that I will undertake is researching different types of graphic novels to get some inspiration on how to present my final piece/project. The preproduction work that I will undertake is to follow my schedule to keep on track what I should be doing each week.

The target audience that I am aiming my project at is for teenagers and possibly children. This is because children and teenagers would like to see some cartoons and different character designs.  Also I feel as though teenagers and children are more into characters and storyboards compared to adults with the way that they understand and know what they want to be doing.

I will present my work by using a graphic novel page. I will do this by creating some sort of storyboard to show my character design. Also I would like to create a graphic novel page because it would show how I developed my character each time. I would create the storyboard by using pencil first to create the main shape and the main story following my character design and it's purpose. Then I will use a black pen to finalise my work. This would make it stand out which would make my work better. I would probably create a brainstorm to show how I would like my character to look, and all of its weapons, items, objects, clothing, appearance. Also I would brainstorm some storyboard ideas that I would like to create. I would like to do this because otherwise I won't be able to create a great graphic novel. Also it would test and show how well I can do the character more then once. I feel as though creating a character design would make my work turn out well.

Brainstorm/ideas

This is my ideas for my project using a Brainstorm. I have done this to see which idea I would like to take forward for my project. The ideas that I like the best from my brainstorm is to create an advert with a product using a character design. I also like the idea of advertising a character because it shows that I thought about what I would like to create.
